Emmett Davis recently pivoted from a highly successful forty year college coaching career to join Compass and close friend and colleague, Ed DeChellis. Davis’ Division I career started at Navy coaching “The Admiral”, David Robinson. Robinson was the 1987 consensus National Collegiate Player of the Year and NBA number one draft pick of the San Antonio Spurs. Davis spent twelve seasons in Annapolis as an assistant coach helping to guide the Midshipmen to four Conference Tournament Championships and four NCAA bids.

Following two consecutive NCAA appearances by Navy in 1997 and 1998, Davis took over the head coaching reins at Colgate University. Davis would spend thirteen years leading the Raiders, become the second fastest coach in school history to reach 100 wins and set a Colgate record for most career wins- 165. Davis spent one season at the University of Tulsa coaching future NBA star Jordan Clarkson, before returning to the Naval Academy for ten seasons working under Ed DeChellis as an Associate Head Coach. Navy posted a 140-123 overall record and 91-60 league regular season record during his second stint at Navy which included two Patriot League Championship Game appearances in 2022 and 2025.

Former Naval Academy Director of Athletics, Chet Gladchuk had this to say about Coach Davis recently, “ Coach Davis has always represented the values and spirit of the Naval Academy in a way that exudes class, honor, and respect. He has been a benchmark for other coaches to look to as a role model in every aspect of the profession. His tireless devotion to our Midshipmen is reflected in the amazing relationships he has maintained with everyone who has ever played for him. Navy has an immeasurable appreciation for his career of excellence.

In addition to his coaching experience, Davis spent time in the sports technology field and both radio and television broadcasting. He worked for XOS Digital as its Mid-Atlantic Regional Accounts Manager and spent a year on television as a college basketball color analyst for the American Sports Network and for Campus Insiders. Davis is currently working on Navy radio as a color analyst for both the men’s and women’s basketball broadcasts which are streamed on ESPN Plus.
